The Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) is an industry-driven, applied research program that develops practical solutions to problems faced by airport operators. Funding more than 20 projects a year, ACRP focuses on issues that other Federal research programs do not address. Airport regulations can limit the selection of best management practices (BMPs) or require modification to the design of BMPs to comply with FAA regulations. One example is that stormwater treatment facilities cannot be designed to be a wildlife attractant as this is a safety issue.

The fact sheets complement those in ACRP project , "Managing runoff from aircraft and airfield deicing and anti-icing operations, " as presented in ACRP report Deicing planning guidelines and practices for stormwater management systems"--Foreword. ACRP WebResource 3 PUBLISHED DATE - November 1, This website was reviewed by the technical panel and accepted for publication according to procedures established and overseen by the Transportation Research Board and approved by the National Academies of .

The objectives of this research are to (1) update ACRP Report Deicing Planning Guidelines and Practices for Stormwater Management Systems (including factsheets) and (2) develop a decision tool (e.g., electronic spreadsheet) to help airport practitioners evaluate sustainable and effective practices related to deicer application and the collection and treatment of stormwater containing deicers. The latest issue of TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Impacts on Practice examines how the Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) in Grand Rapids, Michigan utilized ACRP Report Deicing Planning Guidelines and Practices for Stormwater Management Systems to develop a long-term stormwater and deicing program that would maintain airport safety and comply with.
